Abstract

There are a few sources of data related with tooth- and surface-specific caries. This study was conducted by examining the 1624 students aged 12 to 13 at middle schools located at Chonju, Kunsan and Kimjae cities. The collected data were classified into sound, decay & filled teeth, and others, focused on the ratio of dental caries by surface. To find the effective dental caries preventive means, I conducted a study on the ratio of tooth surfaces attacked by caries by examining some of middle school students.

The obtained results were as follows ;
1. The largest ratio of tooth surface with dental caries is occlusal surface(58.7%) among the total surfaces of
teeth. The bucco-lingual surface(29.2%) and mesiodistal surface(12.1%) follows it.
2. The main tooth surface by caries is the occlusal surface of mandibnalr 1st molar.
3. The result of this study shows that the effective caries preventive method is pit and fissure sealing at 12 to 13-year-old students.
